My
name is Jim Sutherland. I have lived in the area for many years
now and in many ways it feels as if I have come home as my grandfather
worked on one of the Glen Torridon estates in the 20s and
30s.
Over
the last ten years I have been involved in taking folk on walks
and into the mountains. Since operating as nineonesix I have helped
clients to climb Beinn Eighe on Hogmanay as their first ever winter
Munro; assisted a film crew working on a hillwalking series. 'Tir
is Teanga' for Caledonia TV; introduced clients to rock climbing
and abseiling within walking distance of Shieldaig village.
As
well as visiting all of the Munros in Torridon with clients, trips
have also been made to An Teallach, Sgurr na Gillean and Coire Lagan
of Skye.
My
own mountaineering experience is a blend of :
- year
round experience throughout Scotland;
- summer
seasons in the Swiss & French Alps;
- trekking
in New Zealand and the United States,
- ski
mountaineering in the Picos de Europa of Spain
- and
being a member of the local mountain rescue team.
Profiles for the nine one six team
My
main aim with nineonesix is to share this beautiful area with other
people by leading them on hill walks and scrambles in these stunning
mountains.
Should
you so wish I can also arrange activities such as introductory rock
climbing, low level and coastal walks or wild country camping.
In
the winter months I can also provide winter skills training for
those folk interested in progressing onto winter hill walking.
Although
nineonesix is based in the heart of the Torridon mountains I can
also take you to other areas, just get in touch and we can plan
something together!

Activities
with nineonesix are covered by an Instructors Indemnity Insurance
with Perkins Slade Ltd.
