Scrambling course
nineonesix - guiding has introduced this new course for 2011:
Saturday - meet your Mountaineering Instructor for an introductory day at a local venue in Shieldaig. Here you will be shown the basic personal equipment and techniques to safely make the exciting transition from hill walker to mountaineer. We will teach you about what equipment is required, tying in to the rope; route finding and abseiling.
Sunday - head to the beautiful village of Diabaig to make a scramble from sea level all the way up through some superb rock to the summit of Meall Ceann na Creige. This gives almost 300 metres of scrambling on superb Lewisian Gneiss with the option of a return to Shieldaig by boat...
Monday - travel up to Gairloch to tackle the 'miniature mountain' that is An Groban. There are at least three possible routes that can be attempted, including the classic grade 2 scrambles 'Humpback Buttress' or 'Right-Hand Slabs'. Then celebrate a great 3 days with a pint in The Old Inn at the bottom of the hill!
The ratio for this course is 1:2, clients may have the opportunity to lead under the supervision of their Mountaineering Instructor. No special personal equipment is needed other than your own personal hill gear and boots/approach shoes. Please note the above itinerary is provisional and can change due to weather conditions or client aspirations.
